Search procedure

How Sherlock Search works: one photo, one payment, one report.

The payment boundary is explicit. Your image stays in this browser until the server verifies the Stripe payment.

  1. 01

    Prepare one clear photo

Choose, drop, or paste a JPG, PNG, or WebP. The image stays in your browser while you review it and open checkout.

  2. 02

    Choose a one-time search pack

After the search-readiness check, choose a one-time package. Stripe collects payment and your recovery email; there is no subscription.

  3. 03

Spend a credit on the real search

After payment is verified, upload a fresh photo and spend one credit. Possible matches return with similarity context and links to their public source pages.

Report anatomy

What a Sherlock Search report includes

Match confidence guide

Use the score as a lead and verify every source.

75–100%Strong Match
50–74%Likely Match
0–49%Unlikely Match

Confidence at a glance

Color and text make it easy to see which possible matches deserve closer review first.

Meaning, not certainty

Similarity helps prioritize review. It does not certify a name, ownership, or legal identity.

Public source links

Open the page behind a result and examine its account, date, caption, and surrounding facts.

Review protocol

How to review a Sherlock Search result

A convincing thumbnail can still belong to an unrelated or copied page. Treat the face, source page, and timeline as separate pieces of evidence.

Before you act

Record both similarities and contradictions. Never use a face search alone for employment, housing, credit, insurance, law enforcement, or another decision that materially affects a person.

  1. 01

    Compare stable facial details

Look at eye spacing, brows, nose shape, jawline, ears, and distinctive marks. Hair, clothing, filters, and scenery can change easily.

  2. 02

    Open the original page

Read the account name, caption, date, domain, and surrounding page. A thumbnail without its source context is only a partial lead.

  3. 03

    Look for corroboration

Check whether more than one independent source supports the same conclusion. Record contradictions as carefully as similarities.

Responsible use

When to use Sherlock Search responsibly

The service helps locate pages to inspect. It is not a background check, identity registry, or decision-making system.

01

IDENTITY CHECK

Examine an unfamiliar online identity

Compare a profile photo with other public appearances before relying on a name, biography, or claimed location. The result can reveal pages worth checking, but it cannot tell you who controls an account.

02

IMPERSONATION

Trace possible photo reuse

Investigate whether a face appears alongside different names or stories. Review the oldest accessible sources and the context around each use before reporting possible impersonation.

03

SELF-AUDIT

Review your own public footprint

Search a photo you own to find possible reposts or unexpected public exposure. Source links provide a practical starting point if you decide to contact a website or platform.

Privacy boundary

The payment happens before the search

Search setup keeps the selected photo on your device. The full image comparison begins only after the server verifies the Stripe payment and you confirm the final search photo.

Before paymentThe selected photo remains in this browser.
At checkoutStripe handles the one-time payment and recovery email.
After paymentThe server unlocks one private search and report.
Media windowSearch media is retained for up to 24 hours.

18+ lawful use

Use the service only for a legal, non-harmful purpose.

Human review required

A possible match must be checked against source context.

No identity guarantee

Visual similarity cannot establish who a person is.

Field notes

Sherlock Search questions before you upload

01What does Sherlock Search do?+

The service submits one face photo to a reverse-image search provider and returns possible visual matches connected to public web pages. Results are leads for your own review, not proof of legal identity.

02Do I need to create an account?+

No. Choose a photo, complete the one-time Stripe checkout, and return directly to the private report. Stripe collects an email so you can receive a receipt and recovery link.

03What does the one-time payment include?+

Each purchased search credit covers one provider comparison and one private source-linked report. Eligible promotion codes can be entered at Stripe Checkout. There is no subscription or recurring charge.

04What if the search returns no matches?+

A completed zero-match search is not refunded because the provider comparison was performed. It does not prove the face is absent online; relevant images may be unindexed, unavailable, or visually different.

05What if a technical problem stops the search?+

If the provider rejects the request, cannot be reached, or times out before completing the comparison, the used search credit is restored automatically.

06How long is search media retained?+

Search media is retained for up to 24 hours. Keep the emailed recovery link until you have finished reviewing the private report.

07Can a similarity score confirm someone’s identity?+

No. It measures visual resemblance between images. Always inspect the public source, timeline, account details, and independent evidence before reaching a conclusion.
